The makers of the $100 laptop and the One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) have unveiled a new slimline tablet PC, the XO -3. The new tablet PC which is proposed to be released sometime in 2012, will be retailing for a price less than $100 and will be aimed at connecting children around the world. The company had earlier scrapped all plans of developing the XO 2 which was a foldable notebook kind of device.

4G networks have now become a reality and people in Norway and Sweden could be first ones to use the fourth generation in mobile networks. Telecom company TeliaSonera has announced that they have been working on two mobile networks in Stockholm and Oslo and people will be able to use the networks from sometime in early 2010. The networks are based on the Long term Evolution technology and users will first be able to access the network only through a laptop and a dongle as no mobile devices currently support the 4G network.

Here’s some interesting news for football fans. The regulation authority of the world’s most famous sport has decided to film the World cup 2010 to be held at South Africa is 3D. FIFA has announced that it will shoot around 25 of the matches with 3D cameras. Thought they haven’t said any plans about telecasting the matches in 3D, the governing committee has said that they have shelved the idea for now and will decide on it in the upcoming months.

UK supermarket giant Tesco, has joined the league of companies that are selling Apple’s popular phone –the iPhone. Though Tesco has not commented on the exact release date or the prices of the phone, company sources say that the phone would be released sometime before Christmas and the handsets are expected to be priced competitively. This news comes after O2, the only operator that was licensed to sell the iPhones in the UK lost its contract earlier this September and with networks like Orange and Vodafone offering the iPhones sometime soon.

After the first worm attack in iPhones earlier this month, engineers at security company F-Secure have unearthed what they claim to be a harmful worm that affects iPhone users. The earlier worm was considered harmless as it just replaced wallpapers of users with the one of a popstar. The new virus was mainly targeted at people in the Netherlands who used the online banking facility of the Dutch bank, ING. The worm extracts sensitive banking information from people by taking them to a bank lookalike site.

Microsoft has come down hard on people who modded their Xbox consoles to play pirated games and banned them from the Xbox Live service. The banned players will not be able to use the Xbox Live service anymore and will have to purchase a new console in order to use the service. Microsoft has also said that, this move was to check piracy in the video game industry as it incurred losses of about £750 million each year due to privacy.
