New iPhone Sci-Fi Accelerometer Game Launched; Introducing Nova Ball and Nova Ball FREE
Gary Sims, the technology consultant and author, is pleased to announce the launch of the new iPhone and iPod Touch game ‘Nova Ball’. Developed independently, Nova Ball is a space/sci-fi accelerometer game. In the game you control the ball by holding your device parallel to the floor and tilting.
The game has three modes: arcade, mayhem and missions. In arcade mode you need to see how fast you clear each level. Mayhem is all about survival; stop the stars reaching critical mass. In mission mode you have to clear each level to progress to the next.
‘I am really excited about this new game’ said Gary during the launch. ‘The iPhone, iPod Touch and now iPad is a great platform for developing mobile applications and of course games’
There is also a free version of Nova Ball known as ‘Nova Ball Free’. This lite version can be downloaded from the App Store and played without any limitations or expiry. However it is different to the full version in that the Mayhem mode has been removed and there are only 6 missions to play rather than the full 50.
The games can be downloaded here:

There was a time when I used to dream… if I only had a keyboard to type on my iPhone so that I could type fast on this buttonless baby of mine. But my dream has now come true for me. Now there is an application through which we can connect iPhone or iPod touch to a keyboard.
If you want to sit and type through a keyboard, you must install “BTstack Keyboard app” from Cydia store. This application worth $5, but is equally helpful and pay its price.
This application works through Bluetooth. It searches for the keyboard device and let you connect it to your iPhone.

Save Money and Find Free iPhone Apps Easily
With over 100,000 iPhone applications in the App Store, finding the right app (with the right price) can sometimes be a bit bewildering
especially sine there isn’t a sort by price filter.
Fortunately, there are alternatives to the App Store’s built-in search engine that do let you know when iPhone apps go on sale (or even drop their price to free). This will let you save loads of money.
First up is AppShopper.com. Not only does this site track popular changes in the App Store, you can also filter apps by paid vs. free, by category, and so forth.
App Shopper provides all the information for each individual app that the App Store provides, word-for-word, except for user reviews. Average star rating for the app is available, but the written user reviews for the apps are (perhaps mercifully) absent. It also shows all the available activity for the app, such as when it was introduced to the App Store, when it’s been updated, and all the changes in price it’s seen.
148apps.com provides some of the same information that App Shopper provides, such as price drops (for the past five days) and newly introduced apps. While it doesn’t provide as much trending information as App Shopper, 148Apps does offer a daily e-mail, an RSS feed, and a Twitter feed just for price drops. 148Apps also publishes its own reviews of iPhone apps, giving you another perspective on whether that app’s worth your money before you buy it.

Tesco to sell iPhones in the UK

UK supermarket giant Tesco, has joined the league of companies that are selling Apple’s popular phone –the iPhone. Though Tesco has not commented on the exact release date or the prices of the phone, company sources say that the phone would be released sometime before Christmas and the handsets are expected to be priced competitively. This news comes after O2, the only operator that was licensed to sell the iPhones in the UK lost its contract earlier this September and with networks like Orange and Vodafone offering the iPhones sometime soon.
Orange has started offering its customers the iPhone while Vodafone will start sometime in January 2010. Tesco mobile is a joint venture with O2 mobile which already has a large subscriber base and the popularity by selling the iPhone in the UK for 2 years. O2 had reported that it had sold about a million handsets earlier this year. Both the iPhone 3G and the iPhone 3GS will be available with Tesco and all other operators.
Second Worm Hits iPhones

After the first worm attack in iPhones earlier this month, engineers at security company F-Secure have unearthed what they claim to be a harmful worm that affects iPhone users. The earlier worm was considered harmless as it just replaced wallpapers of users with the one of a popstar. The new virus was mainly targeted at people in the Netherlands who used the online banking facility of the Dutch bank, ING. The worm extracts sensitive banking information from people by taking them to a bank lookalike site.
The worm is also known to mainly attack jail-broken iPhones and ones that are installed with the Secure shell installed. Users who hadn’t changed the SSH’s default password were the ones at risk as the attackers could control the phone remotely. Though the worm remains localized in Netherlands for now, possibilities of the spread of the worm to other countries also have been ruled out.
Chrome OS Takes Google Head to Head with Apple Not Microsoft

There is an interesting analysis, over at Gaj-IT.com, of the impact that Google’s new Chrome OS, which is rumoured to be released this week, will have for Apple and Microsoft.
Google is trying to repeat its success with Android on smart-phones with Chrome OS on Wi-Fi and 3G enabled netbooks. Google are clever enough to know that they can’t unseat Microsoft from their dominant position on the desktop but Google doesn’t really need to. To Google the world is the Internet (or the Cloud as it is more fashionable called nowadays). Take for example the new Google Maps application with turn-by-turn navigation that Google is testing in the USA. To access the maps and get the navigation information the phone, running Google Maps, needs to be connected to the Internet and it gets its information live from Google. Previously Sat-Nav systems used the maps stored in their internal memory for the navigation information, but now any more.
So Google is trying to release an Operating System where connecting to the Cloud is the most important feature. This means that Google is aiming this OS squarely at netbooks and Internet Tablets which will at least have Wi-Fi and optionally some form of 3G connectivity.
The web is operating system agnostic. It actually doesn’t matter if you use Windows, OS X or Linux. Firefox (and ultimately Chrome) is available for all of them and what do you care which operating system is running under the hood.
So what does it mean for the average gadget fan. Simply it means that Windows and OS X will remain dominant on the desktop but future Internet savvy devices will start to run Google Chrome OS. And as yet Microsoft don’t have an answer for this. Interesting Apple is in a much better position than Microsoft in that the operating system used on the iPhone and iPod Touch already does everything that Google want to do with Chrome OS (but with Safari rather than Chrome). If the rumours are true about an Internet Tablet from Apple then you are pretty much guaranteed that it will run a variation of the iPhone OS. This means that there will be an app store for the Internet Tablet and because they are Apple everything will be cool. So really Google is going head to head with Apple and Microsoft will be left behind (again).
Oh, did I mentioned that it the piece of written by yours truly (Gary, senior blogger of the Hi-Tech Squad)… No… Oh well…
