Microsoft’s Response to Sony’s PS3 Price Cut

1 September 2009 No Comment

Come Friday and gamers are in for a surprise as the leading makers of gaming consoles, Microsoft and Sony have decided to cut down their price tags.

Microsoft has announced the reduction of the price of its Xbox 360 Elite gaming console in the UK to £199.99 from the previous rate of £229.99. Customers in the US are also in for a surprise as the price tag has been dropped from $399 to $299. But the price of Arcade, the Xbox’s entry level model will be increased to £159.99 from £129.99 in the UK whereas its price will remain the same $199 in the US. This reduction in price was done as a response to the reduction of prices by Sony for their new PlayStation 3 gaming console to £249 in the UK and $299 in the US.

In spite of all the price cuts, it has been seen that the overall sales of both Xbox and PS have reduced this year with a drop of 29% in the US, however Xbox sales showed a positive growth in the US rising by17%. The revised price will come into effect from August 28, ahead of the price revision of PlayStation 3 from Sony. A gamer’s opinion was that Sony is worried about reducing its prices but for him Xbox provides bigger games library and better games and he felt it was a better console but another gamer from East London felt that PS3 provides brilliant games than the Xbox and he loved it for the little extras that come with it!
