eBay to Sell Skype?

1 September 2009 No Comment

Online auction leaders eBay is all set to sell off their internet based phone company, Skype. There have been speculations as to who the buyers of Skype will be and one of it is that it will be sold to private investors including Marc Andreessen, the co-founder of Netscape. Ebay has been trying to sell Skype for sometime now as they felt that Skype has limited synergies with it. Skype is a famous software that allows PC users call other Skype users for free and also call mobile or landlines and concessional rates.

When eBay acquiring Skype in October 2005 for a staggering amount of $2.6 billion, many internet analysts felt the price was too high. But since the acquiring, the number of Skype users have shot up from 53 million to 405 million. Though no prices were quoted for the sale, many have speculated that eBay plans to sell Skype for $2 million.
