Mozilla has released version 3.5 of their open source Firefox web browser, code named “Shiretoko”, which includes the new Trace Monkey JavaScript engine and is based on version 1.91 of the Gecko layout engine
Version 3.5 is:

Faster

Has private browsing mode

Can delete individual sites from our history

Can delete the last few hours of browsing history

Includes support for Open Video

Has location aware browsing

The Mono developer team has now released version 2.4.2 of the open source .NET development framework. The latest version of Mono is a maintenance release and includes more than 150 bug fixes. It is, however, also the first version to support the ASP.NET MVC framework, which has been available under an open source licence, the Microsoft Public License (MS-PL), since the beginning of April.

Two and a half years after the release of PHP 5.2.0 and following a slight delay, the PHP development team have announced the release version 5.3.0 of PHP. Version 5.3.0 of the web programming language includes several fundamental new extensions, as well as a number of other new features and is the one of the biggest revisions in PHP’s history. Many of the functions originally planned for PHP 6 have ended up in the 5.3 development pipeline.

The Pirate Bay (TPB) has been sold to the Swedish software company Global Gaming Factory X AB for $7.6 million.

TPB is one of the top one hundred visited web sites in all the world. If you aren’t among the 20 million monthly visitors to the Pirate Bay, it is a search engine for Peer-to-Peer file sharing (in other words where you go to download films, games and hacked versions of Windows).

VirtualBox 3.0 has been released by Sun. This major update introduces Symmetrical Multiprocessing (SMP) in virtual machines as well improved 3D support.

VirtualBox is an x86 virtualization solution, developed by Sun Microsystems (it was originally created by German software company Innotek). When it is installed on an existing host operating system (known as the host) additional guest operating systems can be loaded and run, each with its own virtual environment.

Lenovo has released details of its new 14 inch business laptop the ThinkPad T400. The T400 has a carbon fibre shell, inspired by Lenovo’s featherweight ThinkPad X300, making it quite thin (only 2.1 cm) and relatively light. At the same time the T400 is no performance slouch. The T400 comes with the Intel 2.53 GHz Core2Duo processor, 2GB of memory (upgradable to 4GB) and a range of solid state drive storage up to 128 GB or if you prefer a 250 GB hard drive.

Shuttle has released a barebone version of their all-in-one touch screen mini PC the X50. The dual-core processor Intel Atom powered X50 is a 15.6 inch all-in-one PC with touchscreen and carry handle. All this comes in a shell that is only 36mm thick.

Microsoft has officially announced the initial pricing for Windows 7, and full retail Home Premium version will be $200, or $40 less than the initial and today’s pricing of Windows Vista. Upgrade to Home Premium will be $120. But those who where hoping for something sweet considering the state of the US and world economies will be disappointed, especially considering that an upgrade to Snow Leopard will only cost $30.

Cisco® (who own the Linksys brand) has announced a new Linux powered router, the WRT160NL. The new model complements the existing consumer router line-up and is essentially the next generation of the popular WRT54GL. The router provides 802.11b/g and n connectivity and is 802.11n draft 2.0 certified.

The router also has what Cisco are calling “integrated Storage Link functionality” which lets consumers connect their USB storage device to the router to create a powerful media sharing solution that enables video, photo and music sharing through the integrated media server.
